PROPERTIES

  • Water permeability
  • Water resistance

Wetlaid is much more durable than paper. It allows water to permeate, but unlike paper it is water resistant and does not tear apart like paper does upon contact with water. But, it is stronger than paper even when it is dry.

Unlike paper, it also easier to seal and/or join the material with the help of heat.

You can control the durability of the paper by increasing or decreasing the amount of polyester.

WHERE IS IS USED?
It is usually used as a replacement for paper or spunlace.

Embroidery: Wetlaid is sometimes used as a backing for embroidery for easy transfer to another fabric.

Food Products: Both coffee filters and tea bags are usually made out of wetlaid because it allows liquid to pass through while remaining water resistant. Another advantage is that it is easy to bond the material together to form bags, sachets and filters.

Wipes: it is used in wipes because it has a greater wet strength than paper, although spunlace is the material most commonly used in wipes.
