Sustainability
How we work with sustainability
We have long had a focus on sustainability – we dare say that we have been at the forefront of the industry in our work to find and develop new sustainable materials together with customers, in our requirements on suppliers and in our effort in sustainably adapt our facility in Kristianstad. Below you can read about different aspects of our sustainability initiatives.
CERTIFICATION
We are quality and environmentally certified according to ISO 9001 and 14001.
EPD – ENVIRONMENTAL PRODUCT DECLARATION
EPD is an environmental declaration – a standardized document that reports on a product’s environmental impact.
This includes, among other things, production, construction and recycling. It is a good way to be able to compare the impact between different product options.
An environmental product declaration is extensive documentation that must also be reviewed by a third party. We provide our customers with data for EPD.
LCA – LIFE CYCLE ANALYSIS
LCA is about understanding the material’s environmental impact throughout its whole life cycle, which includes raw material extraction, manufacturing processes and use for waste management. This also includes energy consumption, transport and emissions.
A life cycle analysis is included when you make a more extensive environmental product declaration (EPD), but a life cycle analysis can also be done independently.
SUSTAINABLE MATERIAL
Many of our products are used in a context where they really are not allowed to decompose over time – for example in the construction industry.
A circular nonwoven can mean that it is created from recycled material such as PET (r-PET). It can also be about reusing the material or recycle it after consumption by grinding it down to become something else. But we also offer starch-based PLA-based nonwovens with very little environmental impact.

100% SOLAR POWER
We have worked hard to make our own internal processes and production methods more sustainable.
The environmental impact from our production in Kristianstad, where we convert (slit and rewind) nonwoven, has primarily been about energy consumption.
We have installed a large solar park which now means that we actually produce more energy than we consume each year.
SOCIAL SUSTAINABILITY
For a long time now, we have had a strong focus on social sustainability. Not only by documenting and following up on occupational injuries and the work environment in our own operations, but we have also drawn up a clear code of conduct (Code of Conduct) for our suppliers.
We regularly visit all manufacturers we work with and monitor compliance and working conditions.
In cases where our customers have had their own Codes of Conduct for subcontractors, we have always been able to comply with these and note that our own is often more far-reaching.
TRANSPORTATION
We have worked on expanding our supplier network in Europe to offer our customers European-made materials for those who want to reduce the climate impact of long-distance transport.
ECONOMIC SUSTAINABILITY
Scandinavian Nonwoven has existed since 1982 and has since grown organically through wise reinvestments in the company’s operations.
Much of the company’s investment in recent years has been about expanding the machinery and making sustainable investments – in solar cells, product development of sustainable materials as well as documentation and traceability.
As a supplier you can rest assured that our operation is run based on healthy financial policies.
The nonwoven industry is facing big changes and as a nonwoven provider it is crucial for us to continously update our sustainability initiatives.
